20.We Know How to Toast
The end of 2021 is in sight. A year of restrictions, adjustments, hybrid meetings, and social distancing. But also a year that has given us insights into how things can be done differently. More consciously. More personally, in a different way than we're used to. At Delta Pi, we also toasted this eventful yet festive year ahead in a hybrid format. We look forward to the future with justifiable pride.
We hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into who we are, what we do, and what drives us (personally). We'll definitely continue this in the new year, so keep an eye on our website and LinkedIn company page.

And of course, there's also some tidying up to do. Good job, guys!
15.We Know How to share solutions
As you know, this entire year is dedicated to our 20th anniversary. You'll see the "we know how" buzzing around in all our communications. But how did this idea actually come about? Margarita explains it all in the vlog below.
The idea of We Know How!
13.We Know How to calculate
It's a nice tradition for a birthday person to treat someone. In this case, the birthday girl was Delta Pi, celebrating its 20th anniversary. The treat consisted of a free workshop on quantifying performance.
A diverse group gathered for this event at the Delta Pi office in Vught. On the client's side, we welcomed employees from Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail, and the Province of Overijssel. On the contractor's side, we welcomed employees from Alstom, Vialis, CroonWolter & Dros, and the Thales Group.
For some participants, it was an introduction to performance quantification. For others, it was a refresher on the basics of quantification.
Delta Pi also had an achievement to accomplish: limiting the theory of quantification to just 80 sheets! (A topic you can easily talk about for two days.) It also presented the challenge of explaining the essence of asset management frameworks.
After the theory, the participants worked in small groups to develop a case study of a wind turbine failure. This case study involved working with individuals outside their professional field. Part of the study involved determining the contribution of the various components to the failure of the turbine as a whole.
Participants could then test their knowledge against each other in a quiz. This knowledge-and-strength challenge remained exciting until the last of the 16 questions, with three candidates trading places until the very end
In conclusion, we jointly concluded that quantification through performance analysis contributes to better performance management within asset management, particularly for more complex assets or assets with high performance expectations that are close to the asset's limits. Calculated future performance helps balance risks and costs.
We really enjoyed the eagerness to learn and the enthusiasm of the participants.
Thank you for coming!

Delta Pi hosted Nebest for the first CROW webinar to establish the Civil Engineering Platform, which launched in September. Delta Pi is involved alongside Rijkswaterstaat, ProRail, the Municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch, Nebest, and Avans University of Applied Sciences, and is part of the Platform's core team. Our colleague Maurice represented Delta Pi on the webinar. Curious? Check out the vlog Maurice recorded for the webinar.

11.We Know How to Celebrate
Summer! Warmth, coziness, togetherness, fun things to do. Perhaps even a nice trip in the Netherlands or abroad. This year we're celebrating Delta Pi's 20th anniversary, and we hope you enjoy getting a glimpse behind the scenes through a variety of insights. With this insight, we're celebrating the holiday season. How? With all sorts of fun gifts themed around summer. A lovely book about holidays in the Netherlands, a delicious bottle of rosé wine, a wine cooler with our own logo, a tube of sunscreen. And even a Delta Pi Spotify playlist featuring our colleagues' top 40 summer hits. How cool is that! We wish everyone a wonderful summer. We know how to celebrate – the holiday season 😉
10.We Know How to Enjoy
The past year has been demanding. As an organization, but also personally, we've had to demonstrate flexibility and perseverance more than ever. And with success, as we can look back on wonderful projects and collaborations. We're incredibly proud of that!
After such an intensive period, we felt it was crucial to reflect on the results achieved and celebrate our shared success. Together with the entire Delta Pi team, we enjoyed drinks and bites, as well as a delicious three-course meal, at the IJzeren Man in Vught. We know how to enjoy!
9.We Know How to calculate
Delta Pi's strength lies primarily in its advice on risk-based decision-making. This includes a four-day training course that Peter Bakker and Reinder Roos recently delivered to our colleagues at Dutch Process Innovators (DPI). This multi-day training focused on providing greater insight into following the logical steps toward a well-founded risk assessment. These logical steps center on functional thinking, which allows for managing risks based on both qualitative and quantitative analysis. We look back on a successful training course with a fun and engaged group of people. Thank you, DPI, for this wonderful collaboration!

Accessible waterways and highways are crucial for our accessibility and safety, and are taken for granted by many people. But is that really the case? How do you ensure sound decisions are made regarding the management and maintenance of our waterways and highways? In this vlog, our colleague Reinder Roos discusses his work as an asset manager at Rijkswaterstaat Noord Nederland.

Climate adaptation. What exactly is it? And did you know that climate change affects more than just people and nature? Max explains what climate adaptation means for ProRail's infrastructure. Check out the video below.
4.We Know How to Surprise
Birthdays are for everyone! This time, it was our colleagues' turn to be put in the spotlight. Three of us hopped in the car and surprised our colleagues at home with a delicious treat and a personal message, handwritten on a card. Of course, there was confetti. It was wonderful to see all those happy faces.

2.We Know How to Build History
How cool is it to be able to work for and with clients in a national heritage site? How special and wonderful it is to be able to give the station, with its dark spot in history, a new, sustainable purpose, together with the Dutch Railways (NS). And how cool is it if your office is also available in Lego!
2450 Lego bricks
For 10 years now, Delta Pi has been housed in a unique monument: Vught's old station building. A station with a turbulent history. On Monday, February 1st, we welcomed Christian van der Ven and his girlfriend Wilma van den Brink, who have transformed their work into a hobby in a unique way. And "our" station is the centerpiece! Christian recreated the station... using 2,450 Lego bricks! We were very curious to hear the story behind it.
The station officially opened in 1868 and is the last remaining station building of its type in the Netherlands. Christian wanted to recreate this station in Lego because this is where Wilma's grandfather arrived in 1943, bound for Camp Vught. He helped dozens of French prisoners of war escape from Germany but was betrayed. Christian and Wilma regularly walk past the station and the former camp grounds, realizing that we owe our freedom to such ordinary people, who, amidst hope and fear, became heroes.
Original architecture
Christian lives in Vught and works as an archivist in 's-Hertogenbosch. For the design of the Lego station, he used original construction drawings, photographs, and documentation from the archives. Christian explains: "I tried to recreate the situation as accurately as possible in 2003, just before the station lost its ticket office function. The most important thing, in my opinion, is that the Lego model does justice to the architecture of the actual building. I spent a lot of time puzzling over the corner projections, the upper windows, and the roof, in particular.".
Christian has written a 295-step explaining how to build the station building in Vught yourself out of Lego. The guide is available for €3, and by purchasing it, you're also supporting a good cause . The proceeds will be donated to the Camp Vught National Monument.
