What does the design look like? How will you build it? What functions will it perform? How will you maintain and manage it? Jaap regularly asks these questions to our clients. As an IT consultant, he contributes to the reliability, risks, and security of IT systems. He's usually involved in the design phase, before the actual construction process has even been considered. Jaap advises the project team early on on how to manage the complexity of the solution to be developed. He strives to keep systems as simple as possible. Experience shows that complex systems are often less reliable. "To keep things simple, you have to make tough choices," is Jaap's motto. And while that's easier said than done, that's precisely the challenge that drives Jaap.

The reason Jaap enjoys putting his knowledge into practice at Delta Pi? Because it allows him to work on large, complex, and important projects that truly impact society. Many of the projects Jaap has contributed to can be seen from the air, such as the Maeslantkering, the Oosterscheldekering, and the Hollandse IJsselkering. The only Dutch barrier Jaap hasn't yet contributed to—and one that's high on his wish list—is the Afsluitdijk.

In his spare time, Jaap regularly dons a white suit with a belt, whether he's on the judo mat himself or refereeing. A hobby that started purely as self-defense, because he wanted to stay in control of his children. Now, judo has become an important outlet and a true family affair.
