In the coming years, ProRail will replace its current ATB train safety system with ERTMS, which stands for European Rail Traffic Management System. The implementation of ERTMS affects the entire rail sector and is the digital rail platform of the future.
To further accelerate the system's implementation, ProRail, the ERTMS program, is calling on eleven innovation partners from the market. These partners play a key role in ProRail's transition to a more IT-oriented organization. And we at Delta Pi are incredibly proud to be one of these eleven partners.
PRISMS
In this capacity, Delta Pi colleague Ivan Reijnen participated in an engaging panel discussion at the ERTMS conference "Time to Act" on June 14th at the Fokker Terminal in The Hague. More than 350 attendees, 40 speakers, 24 breakout sessions, and 42 roundtable discussions took place. The key components of the program were explained, including the innovation for which Delta Pi is responsible: PRISMS (ProRail Integrated Safety Management System).
With this process and product innovation, we are ensuring that the safety management process at ProRail becomes more accessible. This primarily means that the workflow for demonstrably ensuring the safety of all projects within the ERTMS program will be more optimized.
This allows for the use of safety evidence from one ERTMS project in another. This evidence can be kept up-to-date much more easily in the event of changes.
Evidence of safety data
In essence, PRISMS ensures that evidence data is maintained in an IT system, instead of information in (PDF) documents. A key advantage is that safety across projects, i.e., at the program level, can be much more effectively demonstrated and guaranteed.
When you consider that the ERTMS program's basic safety dossier contains more than 700 potentially hazardous situations, for which you must demonstrate that they are safe to apply in every project within the ERTMS program, you can easily imagine the positive impact of PRISMS.
The new way of collaborating with innovative partners has accelerated the implementation of the ERTMS system at ProRail. The PRISMS system is already at an advanced stage. After the summer, we expect to complete the test phase together with ProRail and hope that ProRail will actually purchase PRISMS.
